We are the descendants of Emma Fox, Simon Leverett and Juburk Martin who were slaves during the 1800's. The Martin-Leverett Association is a chartered organization of members of the descendants of the Martin and Leverett families. The Charter was granted by the state of Georgia on October 5, 1979. Membership in the Martin-Leverett Association is based upon payment of a yearly registration fee. Membership is open to any person based upon birth, marriage or adoption into the Martin-Leverett families.
The purpose of the Martin-Leverett Association is:
- To strengthen the bonds between the descendants of the Martin-Leverett families.
- To Implement suggestions for change in all areas of social, economic, and religious life through cooperation and the exchange of ideas.
- To encourage the pursuit of higher education through the provision of scholarship grants.
The Martin-Leverett Association, Inc. is governed by a Constitution and a set of By-Laws. A Board of Directors and an Executive Board manage the affairs of the Association. The Board of Directors and the Executive Board are elected by the membership, and they serve for a specific period of time. Board Members who are unable to complete an elected term of office are replaced through an appointment process.
The Martin-Leverett Family Reunion is an annual or biannual event held by family members of the Martin-Leverett Association for the purpose to meet, greet, fellowship and renew old family and friendship ties.
